There are so many fragile things, after all. People break so easily, and so do dreams and hearts.

This is one of just a few onscreen graphics that Fox “News” actually put on the air.
I remember some asshole on here going on about how I was declaring “class warfare” because I thought things like universal healthcare were good things, things that would benefit our fellow men and women who — numbering in the tens of millions — go without such things.
So what the fuck is this, exactly?  What is Fox “News” trying to prove here?  That poor people aren’t actually “poor” because they have something in their homes that prevents essential foodstuffs like milk and eggs from spoiling?
That having things like a TV or a cellphone makes them, in words ACTUALLY USED ON FOX “NEWS” TO DEFINE POOR PEOPLE, “the takers,” “parasites” and “the moocher class”?
That a family of four making less than $23,000 a year is somehow getting away with something by literally being too poor to be taxed by the federal government?
Go fuck yourselves.
No seriously.  Go fuck yourselves right now.

^ commentary.

You know, I’m gonna reblog this again tonight because when I did earlier, I really didn’t know what to say, but now that I saw that Fox took it upon themselves to title it “Poor” Households, I have some fucking words I’d like to say.
First of all, how dare Fox think that just because a family has a refrigerator that they aren’t poor. Sorry that poor households aren’t living out on the streets, Fox. Sorry that they aren’t having to beg for food. Sorry that have a basic household appliance that keeps what food they have from going stale. I mean, jesus fuck, WHAT DO YOU WANT? Do you want poor people to have an even harder time by taking away their welfare BECAUSE THEY HAVE A REFRIGERATOR? I don’t know if you knew this, but poor by today’s standards is not poor by the standards of the last century, or the centuries before that. So what if a family with low income has a refrigerator, or a microwave, or a television set. That doesn’t mean they don’t need welfare, or some sort of charity. Just because they aren’t sleeping on the streets doesn’t mean they aren’t poor. This whole station just needs to shut the fuck up and stop spreading their hate for people who are less fortunate than billionaires, who Fox News seems to think are some sort of deities who need to be treated like gods by our gov’t and nation. I mean fuck.

I was actually tearing up watching the Daily Show segment on this, because my family is one of those that, according to Fox News, doesn’t deserve a refrigerator or microwave. I grew up on welfare. My mother worked multiple jobs (despite a disability, I might add) and still could not make ends meet, so she turned to the government for help keeping me and my two siblings housed and fed properly. I will forever be grateful that that help was available.

Reblogging for the commentary.  I also want to add that I just looked over craigslist in my area and I found a trove of microwaves for $25 and a few refrigerators in the free section.  Not to mention that in my experience, many rental units, low-income or otherwise, are already furnished with these appliances.  I agree with the earlier sentiment: fuck you too, Fox News.

anarchyandscotch:

There is a story making the rounds on social media about a 7th-grade girl who is alleging she was harassed, assaulted and raped twice on school grounds, and then expelled when she reported the incidents. The story I’ve seen most often is from Alternet, and is written in their standard non-objective style. The newspaper that broke the story writes it in a more traditional journalistic tone, and it’s been covered by other sources as well. I’d encourage you to read at least one of them.
When stories of this nature come across the wires, I usually track down the actual court filings (which are often linked in the stories themselves) because I find that reading them gives me a better understanding of the story. So I read the original complaint and the school’s written response, in which it denies all allegations.
Responses in cases like this are typically pretty boring, as they tend to be just line-by-line denials of each claim in the complaint. This one is no different. But it ends with their affirmative defenses and I was particularly struck by the final three paragraphs, which I screen-capped and posted above. Paragraph 18, especially.
Keep in mind that “Plaintiff” refers to a preteen girl. A preteen girl who twice reported to her school that she had been raped on school grounds.
“Failed and neglected to use reasonable means to protect herself from loss.”
That’s the school’s response. To a preteen girl. Who told them she’d been raped. Twice. At school.
She failed and neglected to protect herself.
At school.
At school.

Gender Biased Sexual ‘Education’ is failing everyone.

boomvagynamite:

dailymurf:

frass:

Things girls are taught in Sexual Education:

-Basic terminology of female genitals and reproductive system
-Anatomy of male genitalia
-About menstruation
-About Pregnancy / Contraception
-About STDs
-Abstinence only
-Guilt

Things boys are taught in Sexual Education:
-Anatomy of male genitalia
-Basic terminology of female genitals and reproductive system
-Wet dreams
-Why sex, masturbation and ejaculation feel good.
-Hormones, pleasure and why they will crave sex
-Oral sex (fellatio)
-How Pregnancy happens
-STDs
-Abstinence is better

Why aren’t girls taught about the clitoris, apart from the word being on an unrealistic diagram? Why are girls not taught sex can feel good, and about masturbation? Therefore not teaching girls it’s ok to be aroused, how arousal works, that it’s normal and healthy to want sex and to enjoy it? Therefore continuing to make women’s sexual pleasure weird, shameful, perverted, dirty, uncommon or non-existent?  Why are they taught to be the moral and responsible gatekeepers of sex?  Why are we teaching girls more about how sex works for boys than for themselves? Why are we making girls responsible alone for pregnancy? Why are we not teaching girls about consent, peer pressure and about how to communicate their needs?

Why aren’t boys taught about proper female anatomy, and that the in-out-in-out that feels great for them isn’t so good for women as there are almost no nerve endings inside the vagina? Why aren’t we teaching them about the clitoris and other sensitive parts of women when its ok to go into full detail about their own pleasure? Why aren’t they being taught respect and consent, and how to negotiate their needs? Why aren’t they taught about other methods of sex which aren’t penetrative that women can enjoy like mutual oral sex? Why aren’t they taught about menstruation, when women often get educated about everything sexually that happens to men?

The average age to experience hardcore pornography is 11.
The average age for first sexual education is 13.
If you can’t see how that, plus an incredibly sexist, hetero-normative scare campaign of ‘sexual education’ is failing everyone- I think perhaps you need some education on a thing called reality.

And trans sex education is completely left out. Cisnorms take over in Health/Sex Ed as well. No one is taught about dysphoria(disphoria) and so everyone who doesn’t want to do with the dominant partner wants to do is automatically labeled as a freak or prude or something completely irrelevant to sexuality.

This is why I want to be a school sex counsellor. GET THE KIDS SOME TRU FAX ALREADY.

I would love to be a school sex counsellor.

I day-dream about being one on a fairly regular basis.

My sex ed class in high school was a complete joke.  Google taught me everything I needed to know.

days 8 & 9

Wow I am SO BEHIND on this stupid challenge but I really want to finish it.  I’ve been moving and then I had to go to a hotel room with no internet access (long story) and I’ve just gotten internet back.  I literally haven’t even been on my computer at all in a week.  Anyway, here goes.

Day 8 asks for things I want to say to an ex.  I’m not really looking forward to this at all, just gonna throw that out there.  I’m actually gonna cheat and say things to two of my exes.

1). I guess you’re not technically my ex but I’m still going to count you.  I don’t really understand what went wrong.  I thought you were different but I guess you’re not.  I can’t believe that after everything you said to me and promised me you still went and hurt me anyway.  I miss you a lot even though you did that and I hate it.  It gets only a little better every day.  I hate that too.

2). I kind of really dislike you and always have so I’m not sure why I was with you.  You’re immature and selfish and I hope you grow out of these things because you could be a really great person.  There is more to life than your needs and wants and, guess what, sometimes people want to count on you.  Or, at least I did, but you just let me down.  Maybe we just weren’t right for each other, I don’t know.  I really do wish you the best though.

Now that that’s over with, day 9 wants me to talk about something that’s currently worrying me.  I’m worried about a lot of things—Somalia, London, the Middle East in general, just to name a few.  My own biggest worries right now are my mom’s divorce and paying all of my bills and buying textbooks and starting school in two weeks and finishing our move and so. many. things.  It’s kind of stressing me out just talking about it so I’m just gonna leave it at that.

I really hate this challenge, I’m not even sure why I’m still doing it.

RIP NANCY WAKE (30 August 1912 – 7 August 2011)
Ms Wake, who has died in London just before her 99th birthday, was a New Zealander brought up in Australia. She became a nurse, a journalist who interviewed Adolf Hitler, a wealthy French socialite, a British agent and a French resistance leader. She led 7,000 guerrilla fighters in battles against the Nazis in the northern Auvergne, just before the D-Day landings in 1944. On one occasion, she strangled an SS sentry with her bare hands. On another, she cycled 500 miles to replace lost codes. In June 1944, she led her fighters in an attack on the Gestapo headquarters at Montlucon in central France.
Work began earlier this month on a feature film about Nancy Wake’s life. Ms Wake, one of the models for Sebastian Faulks’ fictional heroine, Charlotte Gray, had mixed feelings about previous cinematic efforts to portray her wartime exploits, including a TV mini-series made in 1987.
“It was well-acted but in parts it was extremely stupid,” she said. “At one stage they had me cooking eggs and bacon to feed the men. For goodness’ sake, did the Allies parachute me into France to fry eggs and bacon for the men? There wasn’t an egg to be had for love nor money. Even if there had been why would I be frying it? I had men to do that sort of thing.”
Ms Wake was also furious the TV series suggested she had had a love affair with one of her fellow fighters. She was too busy killing Nazis for amorous entanglements, she said.
Even before she escaped to Britain, through Spain, in 1943 to train as a guerrilla leader, Nancy had been top of the Gestapo’s French “wanted” list. With her husband, she ran a resistance network which helped to smuggle Jews and allied airmen out of the country.
Nancy recalled later in life that her parachute had snagged in a tree. The French resistance fighter who freed her said he wished all trees bore “such beautiful fruit”. Nancy retorted: “Don’t give me that French shit.”
